The day after the storm |
Since
we were holed up in the RV for two days due to snow, yeah,
that's right, SNOW, I finally had time to work on the blog a little.
It's about time, I know!
I'm still working on our travel adventures, but I'm happy to let you know, we made it safe and sound from Lajitas to Lead, South Dakota and are all settled in.
We'd enjoyed a couple of beautiful sunny days, great for hooking up etc, when the day before Mother's Day we got hit with a freak, and very strong, spring snowstorm!
It snowed for 48 hours, fortunately we got very 'fine' snow-flakes, and we ended up with 10" of nice powder! (and fortunately a lot less than the 1 to 2 feet they predicted)
I
must admit, I loved it! It has been almost 2 year since we'd had any, and since we were
warm and dry and cozy, and we knew it was only going to last for a few days,
I enjoyed every minute of it.
The view from our back window |
I'd
made a huge crock pot full of pea soup and baked a nice peach and
blackberry pie, we watched a golf game on TV all day, and worked on a 1000
piece jigsaw puzzle.
After 10 days of travel it was nice to just sit back and take it easy.
We'd brought the big slide back in again because the weight of too much snow might rip it, but kept the small one over the slide out. Every now and than James braved the elements to give it a sweep, just to be sure.
(using another of his clever 'inventions' to do so)
The temperature didn't get above 26F, so everything pretty much froze:
And got covered:
... and was helpful as ever with the puzzle:
Monday morning we woke up to sunshine and a beautiful blue sky:
We did manage to freeze and crack the small water filter (outside), but that needed to be replaced anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
Other than that, we did fine, we kept warm and dry and (knock on wood) even more important, we kept having electricity!
James was picked up by a co-worker around 10 am to get to work since the truck was pretty much snowed in, and the roads could still be a little icy here and there. Not something you want to tackle with a heavy, 2-wheel drive, truck!
By the way, yes, James is working again. He found a great job, working for a contractor in Lead, and despite not hearing from the guy for a while before we got here, everything worked out fine in the end!
I've got most pictures of our travels from Lajitas to here sorted out, and I'm working on putting everything together.
I think I'm going to post a blog for each state we went through, so keep an eye out!
